What we Believe

What We Believe

We believe that God has called us to glorify Him by sharing the good news of Jesus and connecting people to Him.

Our Story

Cape Carteret Baptist Church started with four couples in 1978.  They believed that God wanted a Baptist Church in this community. They began meeting at White Oak Elementary in the Cafeteria. The initial piece of property was donated to us by W. B. McLean and those first four couples put up the money to build our first church building. It was dedicated in May of 1978. We added an addition in 1989, our first parking lot in 1996. We built a second addition in 1999 and our Children’s addition was completed in 2001. Our Family Life Center project was dedicated in September of 2009.

In the years the church has been in existence, we've had 4 lead pastors, Gary Bishop, Mike Lee, Doug Williams and in 1994, Kevin Clubb, who is currently our Senior Pastor.  Patty Loftin started as our part-time Music Director in 1995 and went full-time in 2003 and currently serves part-time in that position.  Kim Jones became our Children’s Director in 2007 and transitioned to Family Ministry Director in December of 2018.  Clay Gaesser joined our staff in July 2019 as our full-time Worship Pastor.

During the summer of 2000, we sent out our first short-term mission group to Northway, Alaska.  Since then, CCBC has sent members to Russia, China, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, South Africa, Thailand, Peru, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Armenia, England, Myanmar, and Malaysia, New York, New Mexico, West Virginia, Kentucky, Louisiana, New Hampshire, Vermont, Mississippi, Georgia and Red Springs on mission trips. Backpack Friends, a ministry of locals feeding locals that currently serves more than 600 children in 18 schools and organizations started in a spare closet in our facilities. We started a Preschool ministry in 2005 and that ministry was relaunched in 2021 as well as our Pipeline After-School ministry.

Through the years here on the Crystal Coast, we have weathered numerous hurricanes and even served as a staging area for North Carolina Baptist Men’s Disaster Relief. We experienced our most extensive damage as a result of Hurricane Florence in 2018. The result of that hurricane was a complete remodel of our Chapel.

Meet Our Team
Where we're going

Where We're Going

In 2019 we recognized that we were not nearly as effective at impacting our community with the Gospel of Jesus Christ as we had been in years past and we entered into a Church Consultation process with The Malphurs Group. The result of that consultation was a renewed commitment to fulfill our mission to Reach Out - Build Up - Share the Good News about Jesus. We renewed our commitment to connect people to God in worship, seeing them become like Jesus in a Bible Study Group, serve Jesus on some Ministry Team and share Jesus with others in our community and to the ends of the earth. We clarified our Core Values of Community, Biblical Foundation, Worship, Prayer, Giving, Families, Outreach and Service. And we sensed that God was calling us to be a Church that is united in the passionate pursuit of the next generation. We are going to be a church where every generation is activated and engaged in reaching out to a generation that does not know the might and power of Jesus. Psalm 71:18 —  18 So even to old age and gray hairs, O God, do not forsake me, until I proclaim your might to another generation, your power to all those to come.
